The IDF is the UK's leading independent doctors' organisation providing support, education, advice and networking.  

We originally created the first IDF website in 2009 to help the admin team manage their growing membership of independent doctors and corporate sponsors, originally facilitating membership communications, records keeping, and event booking as well as presenting both public and member only content.

Since then, the website and functionality has continued to evolve as the membership and admin team, and the services offered by the IDF, have grown over time, with major new pieces of functionality being added on a regular basis over the years.

In 2019 we started a process of a complete upgrade of the site, primarily visually, but with significant development of processes and functionality. The website supports and facilitates the day to day work of a large admin team working both in the office and from home – the public facing part of the website is in fact a very small proportion of what the system does for the team.

The website and admin system functionality includes:

  • Membership application, review and approval together with payment for both the application process and regular subs, via integration with an external PSP for card transactions and a Direct Debit bureau for subscription management.
  • Record keeping and security including GDPR compliance for all member data and secure storage of all confidential information and documents.
  • Membership communications ranging from automated reminders and follow-ups to full scale email news/marketing with segmentation according to interest and requirements.
  • Facilitation of the regulatory processes of annual Appraisal and five yearly Revalidation for those members requiring these services. The system handles the collection of data, the assignment of appraisers, collaborative review of data, and final approval and production of hard copy for regulatory bodies in relation to these processes, together with billing and payment for each of the various stages.
  • Complex event management ranging from free online seminars with unlimited attendees to complex multi-day study weekends with limited places, waiting lists, multiple optional extras plus full card payment facilities and invoicing.
  • Member to member communication facilitated via a dedicated forum and message-board.
  • Multi-role administration including external admin access for management of certain events.
  • Full content management for both public and member-only website content, with member content tailored to the services a member has enrolled for.
  • Comprehensive design including public, member and admin sections

We came to Fisher Simons with a clear idea of what we would like our new website to do for us, but without the expertise to know what was technically possible. Fisher Simons were able to talk it through in language that made sense to us, and then carefully and methodically built us a site that does all we had hoped it would.

The content management system is easy to use and the back-end functions have streamlined our internal processes. Since the site's initial completion we have needed to make a number of upgrades and these have been handled smoothly and efficiently.

Due to the nature of the functionality required, the process itself was quite complicated, but we were kept well informed of progress and were able to make contact with Fisher Simons when we needed to.
